Our Automotive Services Technology program is accredited by the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Education Foundation. And as a student in our Automotive Services Technology Certificate program, ASE Master Certified technicians/instructors will help you learn automotive service and repair in our state-of-the-art facility equipped with the latest tools and equipment.

  • Learn the basic theories and operating principles of vehicle systems and functions.
  • Train in a state-of-the-art, 43,000-square-foot facility outfitted with the same tools and equipment that professionals use on the job.
  • Get hands-on instruction from experienced ASE-certified professionals in small classes that allow you the attention you deserve.

Why study automotive services technology?

Trained and certified in all areas of vehicle service, master technicians use their advanced mechanical, technical, and troubleshooting skills to inspect, maintain, and repair cars and light trucks. In today’s market, those who understand new and sophisticated vehicle and service technologies and have advanced training and certifications in multiple areas have the best job opportunities and earning potential. Earning a certificate in automotive technology will to prepare you to take the following ASE certification exams:

  • G1 - General Maintenance and Repair
  • A1 - Engine Repair
  • A4 - Suspension and Steering
  • A5 - Brakes
  • A6 - Electrical/Electronic Systems
  • A7 - HVAC Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning

Curriculum

ADI’s automotive services technology certificate program is a two-semester program consisting of 32 credit hours. Our curriculum includes engine repair, suspension and steering, and brakes.

Sample Courses

Engine Repair I (A1)

Description
This course focuses on the theory of operation for the gasoline internal combustion engine. Students will learn upper engine and timing components along with their operation. Tools, disassembly and assembly, parts inspections and the use of repair manuals and proper repair procedures will be followed. Students will also learn shop safety, basic hand tools and shop equipment. Students must complete this course with a C or better to count toward the Certificate or Associate Degree program in Automotive Services Technology. Additionally, to be eligible to earn a grade in this course, students must complete a minimum of 85% of the required lecture and lab hours. 15 hours of lecture and 90 hours of lab are required.

Suspension and Steering (A4)

Description
This course focuses on the design and operation of automotive steering and suspension systems. Topics include front and rear alignment, component identification and repair, tire wear patterns and use of service information and equipment. This course prepares students to take the A4 ASE certification exam. To be eligible to earn a grade in this course, students must complete a minimum of 85% of the required lecture and lab hours. 15 hours of lecture and 90 hours of lab are required.

Brakes (A5)

Description
This course focuses on the design and operation of automotive brake systems. Topics include diagnosis and repair of traditional foundation brakes, anti-lock brake and traction control systems. Students will learn the hydraulic systems, brake boosters, disc/drum machining and scan tool usage. This course prepares students to take the ASE A5 certification exam. To be eligible to earn a grade in this course, students must complete a minimum of 85% of the required lecture and lab hours. 15 hours of lecture and 90 hours of lab are required.

Additional requirements

For courses that include a consecutive course, Engine Repair 1 and Electrical/Electronic Systems 1, students must pass with the grade of C or better in order to continue toward earning a certificate.

Accreditation

The Automotive Services Technology certificate program is accredited by the ASE Education Foundation, 1503 Edwards Ferry Road NE, Suite 401, Leesburg, VA 20176.
