If you’re a high school student who’s begun your college search, chances are you’ve heard about Limited Enrollment Programs (LEP). These are majors that are very popular with students and require a limit on the number of seats they can offer. Most colleges and universities require their undergraduate students to complete two years of general education or prerequisite courses before applying to these high-demand majors. Baker College is now offering opportunities for high-achieving incoming freshmen to be admitted directly into Limited Seat Programs through our College of Health Science. Upon entry to the Direct Admission program, these students are guaranteed a spot in their desired major as long as they keep meeting course requirements. Do you have questions about Direct Admission? We’re here to help!
- What is Direct Admission?
“Direct admission is a program that offers freshmen guaranteed acceptance into their professional program (sophomore year) as long as they meet the academic requirements (complete the first-year courses with the required grade) and complete an assessment exam (TEAS) by the end of their freshman year.” - What are the benefits of Direct Admission?
“The benefit is a guaranteed seat into a high-demand health science program! Admittance into these programs is very competitive. Direct Admission allows high performing students to ‘lock-in’ their acceptance (based on meeting academic requirements), which significantly reduces students’ stress and concern about graduating on time with their desired degree. These students are also awarded a $6,000 per year Regents Scholarship to aid them on their academic journey!” - What programs are eligible for Direct Admission?
The courses available for Direct Admission are offered through our College of Health Science and include Nursing, Cardiac Sonography, Diagnostic Sonography, Radiologic Technology, Physical Therapist Assistant, Surgical Technology, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Radiation Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Veterinary Technology.” - Is there a minimum SAT/ACT score required for direct admission?
“Yes, there is. A minimum SAT score of 550 in all areas or a minimum ACT score of 22 in all areas is required to be considered for Direct Admission.” - Is there a minimum high school GPA required for direct admission?
“The minimum high school GPA required for direct admission is 3.5. This minimum GPA can be obtained at the end of the student’s junior year or at any time during their senior year.” - Are there other high school academic requirements?
“Yes, a 2.7 grade or higher is required in high school biology and one other science class.” - Can transfer students qualify for direct admission?
“No, transfer students must go through a competitive process to be accepted into our limited enrollment programs.” - Can I attend the program part-time?
“Unfortunately, no. Once admitted to Direct Admission, a student must maintain a full-time schedule and progress with their cohort throughout the program.” - What happens if I’m a Health Science student, but I’m not admitted to the Direct Admission program?
“Students who are not admitted to the Direct Admission program still have the opportunity to compete for a seat in the professional portion of our programs via the competitive admissions process at the end of their Freshman year.” - Is there a deadline to be considered for Direct Admission*?
