Pi Zeta Epsilon
Description
Pi Zeta Epsilon is a Chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma – the National Honor Society for Criminal Justice. Pi Zeta Epsilon strives to promote analytical thinking, keep abreast of advances in scientific research, elevate ethical standards of criminal justice professions, and sustain in the public mind the benefits of education and professional training. Additionally, although we are a virtual chapter, we strive to engage with the community through service projects that allow us to better understand community relations and needs, and the effect that a fractured social network and unfair systems of resources has on groups and individuals. We also provide educational and information opportunities, such as participating with, or hosting, virtual panels with representatives from various backgrounds, to elevate discussions on vital social issues. We also engage in initiatives that bring about actual change.

How to Get Involved
Membership is available to criminal justice students with a minimum of four classes directly related to the criminal justice field, and a minimum GPA of 3.2 at the time of application. Membership is also open to faculty, students and alumni in the fields of forensics, law, homeland security, human services, political sciences, sociology, justice studies, psychology, public administration, social sciences, government, cybercrime and social work. Students in other disciplines must also have a minimum of four classes directly related to the criminal justice field, and a minimum GPA of 3.2 at the time of application.
Awards and Achievements
- Adopted two highways in Michigan.
- Have a bill being drafted in Michigan legislature to launch the Blue Envelope Program
- Community service at Our Neighbor’s Keeper in Lansing which led us to apply for and receive an Advocacy Grant for that organization.
- Put on a Virtual Panel called One Bad Decision Can Brand You For Life
- Attended the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS)/Alpha Phi Sigma (APS) 2024 conference in Chicago, where Advisor Barb Van Loon presented at two roundtables on How to Have a Successful Online Chapter
