Return to the Hive
Student Debt Forgiveness Program Eligibility
The Return to the Hive Program invites students back into the supportive community of Baker College. By forgiving institutional debt, students are able to return to achieving their academic goals with reduced stress and financial burden.
Applicants must:
- Be a former Baker College undergraduate or graduate student
- Complete the FAFSA application process annually
- Last attended two or more years ago
- In good standing of Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress or has an approved appeal
- Complete the re-enrollment process and meet the re-enrollment criteria
- Students must attend at least half-time
- Students must have an approved Return to the Hive Student Success Plan, which is developed in collaboration with Financial and/or Academic advising

Students will sign an agreement that includes their approved Return to the Hive Student Success Plan. This agreement outlines the requirements for debt forgiveness, ensuring students understand their obligations.
No, the Return to the Hive program specifically addresses institutional debt owed to Baker College. This program is designed to help students eliminate financial barriers related to their outstanding balances with the college, allowing them to re-enroll and complete their education. If you have federal student loan debt, additional resources are available to assist you in managing that debt.
For students with federal student loans, we have partnered with Student Connections to provide support throughout the loan repayment process. This service is completely free for Baker College students and can help you navigate your repayment options. - 50% of institutional debt will be forgiven after successfully completing the first semester.
- An additional 50% will be forgiven after successfully completing the second semester.
- Students who graduate after one semester will receive 100% forgiveness upon graduation.
To qualify for debt forgiveness, students must:
- Complete at least 6 undergraduate credits (or 5 graduate credits) per semester
- Pass at least 67% of attempted coursework (withdrawals count as attempts)
- Maintain a 2.0 GPA for undergraduates (or 3.0 for graduate students)
Yes, your account will remain in collections until the full balance is forgiven. However, collection efforts will be suspended while you are enrolled and meeting the program requirements.
Yes, you must ensure your current balance is paid in full before debt forgiveness is applied. Institutional debt forgiveness will not apply if you have a past-due balance for your current enrollment.
Students will be responsible for any legal fees that may be related to previous collection activity.
