The Jackson branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) awarded three student scholarships to Baker College students for the annual AAUW National Conference for College Women Student Leaders at the University of Maryland.
The recipients of these scholarships were Kendra Farmer, a BSN program senior; Sarah Glover, a BSN program senior; and Ashley Potosky, a junior in the Information Technology and Security program.
The three-day conference focuses on empowering college women to create meaningful impacts on their campuses, mobilizing their communities, and preparing for personal and professional success after graduation. The students had the opportunity to attend numerous presentations and interactive workshops and panel discussions on topics such as wage negotiation, how to be an activist, getting out of your comfort zone, self-care and many others on leadership development, identity and diversity, and women’s issues.
Two keynote speakers, Roxane Gay and Dr. Tererai Trent, inspired the more than 700 attendees. A night out in Washington D.C. and the Women of Distinction ceremony and reception were other highlights of the conference.
