Consumers Energy awarded Baker College among other sponsors during the FIRST Championship Kickoff Reception and Awards Ceremony in Detroit for its involvement in expanding the FIRST Robotics program in Jackson County.
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics offers hands-on, real-world experiences in STEM fields that are lacking in the traditional high school classroom setting.
During the ceremony, Patti Poppe, CEO of Consumers Energy, spoke at length about the initiative and the key role that sponsorships played in its expansion, adding a total of 21 teams across the entire FIRST portfolio of programs.
