The School of Nursing at Baker College was recently recognized as a 2022 recipient of the Stellar School Chapter Recognition from the National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA). Baker College, one of just three Michigan college and university nursing programs to earn the designation for the 2021-2022 academic year, was recognized as part of the NSNA 70th Annual Convention held April 6-10, 2022 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Established in 2009, the NSNA Stellar School Chapter Recognition distinguishes chapters who demonstrate ongoing involvement in NSNA and a strong commitment to shared governance and professional development of their students and faculty.
To earn recognition, applicants must demonstrate, with documented examples, how the chapter meets a set of five criteria, including official NSNA constituency status and chapter leadership participation; dean/director and faculty support of professional development of students and program involvement and service learning, among others.
“This recognition is particularly special, because it shines a spotlight on the dedication of both our nursing students and faculty…showcasing their collective pledge to the field of nursing and its ongoing professional development opportunities,” said Dr. Lesley Morgan, dean, Baker College School of Nursing. “The administration applauds their efforts and joins them in celebrating their success.”
The NSNA Stellar School status is awarded for five years and is renewable with resubmission of an application and supporting documents. The rigorous application process on Baker College’s behalf was spearheaded by Christy Rapoza, assistant professor and Student Nurses’ Association (SNA) faculty advisor, and Elizabeth Hemmes, student president of the Baker College of Cadillac SNA chapter. Both Rapoza and Hemmes were present to accept the recognition in person at the NSNA Annual Convention.
