The Baker College of Owosso Board of Regents has elected Mary Slingerland, RN, MSN as chairperson, effective Oct. 15, 2018. Slingerland joined the Baker College of Owosso Board in 2016, and she replaces retiring board member and board chair, Richard Batchelor.
Slingerland currently serves as business development coordinator for Slingerland Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM FIAT. Prior to this role, she served as director of nursing and dean of health sciences at Baker College of Owosso from 2001 to 2012. Slingerland also served as a Registered Nurse (RN) in multiple capacities at Memorial Healthcare in Owosso from 1976 to 1987, and again from 1989 to 2001. She holds a BSN degree from Mercy College of Detroit and an MSN from Saginaw Valley State University.

An active volunteer and nonprofit supporter, Slingerland’s current and past community service work includes: Respite Volunteers of Shiawassee, United Way, Shiawassee Community Foundation, Owosso Public School Board of Education, WOW – Walls of Warmth, 100 Women Who Care – Owosso, Athena Nominating Committee, Owosso Rotary and St. Paul Church. In 2000, Slingerland was honored as the Athena Recipient by the Shiawassee Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Slingerland follows in the footsteps of Richard Batchelor, who served as board chair from 2001 to 2018, and George Hoddy before him, who held the role from 1985 to 2000.
“The contributions and leadership that both Mr. Hoddy and Mr. Batchelor provided to Baker College of Owosso have been far reaching over the years,” said Denise Bannan, provost and president of Baker College of Owosso. “We’re indebted to them for their forward-thinking strategies over the years, and we are so privileged to have Mary taking the leadership reins from here in our ongoing partnership with the Shiawassee County community.”
