Multiple honors were bestowed among several of the twenty-five students from the Baker College of Auburn Hills, Owosso and Cadillac campuses during the 70th Annual Michigan Student Nurses Association (MNSA) Convention held Friday, Oct 22, 2021.
Students from across the state plan the MNSA convention, and Baker College graduate Victoria Ford served as the event’s lead coordinator. Ford has served as the 2nd Vice President for the MNSA board for the last two years.
The MNSA works to create environments where nursing students can achieve their full potential, providing leadership to its members and the public as the voice of nursing students within the State of Michigan. The MSNA offers a place for nursing students to feel supported in their development towards becoming professional registered nurses.
During the convention, board elections were held. The newly voted MNSA board will now include Baker College’s Julia Parker, president; Mariah Roling, 1st Vice President; Faith Edinger, 2nd Vice President; and Lindsey Archambo, Treasurer.
Among other activities held during the convention, Baker College’s Hannah Sikkema and Nichole Brown presented a resolution on Self-Care, which was unanimously passed. The next steps will be to submit the resolution to the National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA) at their yearly convention in Salt Lake City, UT, April 6-10, 2022.
Additionally, BC Nursing Faculty Kelly Martin, DNP, RN, CNE, received the Distinguished Advisor Award and the Baker College of Cadillac campus took home the Chapter of the Year award and the Community Health Scholarship.
“(Assistant Professor of Nursing) Stacy Slater and myself have put a lot of time into growing our chapter into future leaders,” said SNA and MSNA Faculty Advisor Dr. Christy Rapoza, “We could not be more proud of them.”
