ROYAL OAK, Mich. (March 1, 2023) – Baker College is pleased to announce new initiatives aimed at affordability and accessibility, beginning this fall with a tuition freeze, new scholarships and the BeFree Tuition Guarantee for qualified students.
In an amplified effort to help more Michigan students achieve a higher level of education, Baker College, one of Michigan’s largest, private nonprofit colleges and the top private transfer school in the state, is pleased to announce new efforts to reduce, and in some cases remove, cost barriers that may prohibit individuals from pursuing higher education.
“For Baker College to remain true to its mission, we are committed to putting our students first and to providing unique and impactful programs and services that allow more students to access a quality post-secondary education,” said Jacqui Spicer, EdD, Baker College president. “We don’t want cost to be why students defer their educational dreams.”
To begin, the Baker College Board of Directors has approved a tuition freeze for all programs and areas of study for the 2023-2024 academic year. “For so many, the desire to attend college is overshadowed by the inability to do so affordably. At Baker, we want to do what we can to ensure those that want a degree can find a tenable path to earning one,” said Denise Bannan, PhD, chair of Baker College Board of Directors. “As the popular saying goes, talent is equally distributed, but opportunity is not. We hope that by freezing tuition rates, we are giving more students an opportunity to let their talent shine.”
Additionally, this month Baker College is pleased to mark the official launch of the “BeFree Tuition Guarantee” program, an initiative that provides qualified Michigan residents the opportunity to receive free base tuition for up to four years. Some qualifying conditions, including Michigan residency, GPA minimums and Pell Grant eligibility apply. Additional details are outlined at baker.edu/befree. The Baker College BeFree Tuition Guarantee is available beginning fall 2023. Interested students can contact the admissions team at 1-833-541-0074 for additional information.
In addition to the new BeFree Tuition Guarantee program, Baker College offers a multitude of scholarships to provide more affordability options for students, including the Transfer Scholarship, new Gap Years Scholarship and BC Nursing Scholarship.
“For some Michigan students, even with reduced fees or financial aid, college still isn’t a realistic option,” said Linda Katrinic, vice president of student financial aid at Baker College. “We realize that some students delayed the decision to attend college during the COVID pandemic years, so we created a new Gap Years Scholarship for students who graduated high school between 2020 and 2023, and a new BC Nursing Scholarship, as part of the many scholarships available. We are committed to opening our doors to those eager to take classes online or in person.”
