Three Cheers for One of the Fastest Growing Occupations in the U.S.
March 24-30, 2019 marks the 30th annual HIP Week, a showcase for and recognition of the thousands of health information management professionals working hard every day to keep our health care system healthy.
Baker College has been preparing health information professionals for rewarding careers since 1989. So, whether you are a HIP, know a HIP or are interested in becoming a HIP, here are three reasons we’re cheering for HIP Week 2019.
Hip, Hip Hooray for Jobs
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of health information technicians is projected to grow 13 percent from 2016 to 2026, faster than the average for all occupations. And there aren’t just a lot of jobs, there are a lot of types of jobs to be had in health information management, in every single type of health care setting…and with the continual development of the medical field, new and different jobs in health information are being created every day.

In a time where it seems personal data is under attack from every angle, we give a cheer to an entire profession dedicated to accuracy and integrity. Health information professionals are responsible for acquiring, analyzing and protecting innumerable amounts of private patient data…we all should be thankful to have their professional commitment to honesty and dependability on our side.
Hip, Hip Hooray for Health Care’s Unsung Heroes
You don’t have to have an advanced medical degree to help improve patients’ lives. Physicians, nurses, surgeons, testing sites, research laboratories, rehabilitation centers and more all are able to provide appropriate patient care thanks to an important system of trusted information…a universal language of data that connects every patient with their health care. Behind the scenes are the thousands of health information professionals keeping it all moving…using data to improve the health care system and ultimately better serve patients. We celebrate them all this HIP Week!
